Dear Stingray Parents and Guardians,

Students, staff, and volunteers hit the ground running this month, ready to have a strong second half of the school year.  All are focused on student growth, no matter what their starting point was when they began this school year. Whether they were below, at, or above grade level the key question is: is the student making further growth in every subject area?  Please also work at home with your child in cultivating a growth mindset - “I CAN learn more and mistakes are great because making mistakes is how I learn”.

Thank you to all classroom volunteers for your continued dedication and reliability.  You make a difference in the classrooms!  As volunteers, please remember that confidentiality and positivity are critical and keep these points in mind:

  • At all times, use a positive tone and words with students, and when talking about students.

  • When speaking with other adults in person or on Konstella, do not discuss other students in the class. All parents are included in these communications and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment on Konstella and on our school grounds is key to a positive school experience for everyone.

  • If you have questions about how best to work with a specific student, ask the teacher directly.

  • Be an upstander rather than a bystander; if you are involved in a conversation where a parent is forgetting any of the above, please help them.

We appreciate all that parents do for Stevenson students and to create a positive school community for all families.

Warm Regards,

Terri Lambert

Principal, Stevenson Elementary

Better Together: January

“There are all kinds of courage," said Dumbledore, smiling. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends." - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Sometimes, being a good ally might mean standing up to our friends to protect someone else. In the month of January, MVWSD students will explore the essential question: How do I have a difficult conversation with someone? A thoughtful ally finds a way to express themselves respectfully and with an open mind. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.
