Stevenson Weekly News Letter 6/5/19

6/5/19/Users/mayala/Desktop/StevensonStingray-2.png LOGO.png

Dear Stevenson Families,

It is with mixed emotions that I write this note.  I have accepted the Chief Business Officer position for our District.  Over the past four years, our school has helped me grow as a professional and as a person.  I value the unity of our community and unique programs that promote social emotional-learning, academic learning, and empathy not just for children but also for adults.

Last week I was speaking with a parent and shared that I had fed my 5-month-old son stale milk because of a huge miscommunication and sleep deprivation.  Once enough time had passed and he did not become sick, I was reminded of our Parent Education Program which stresses that we do the best we can as parents and then allow ourselves grace as we continue to improve in the same way we allow children to grow.  A parent who I was speaking with, a person who always seems to have it together, shared a parenting mistake, too. . I share this short anecdote to highlight our caring community, as well as the unique aspects our program has to help all members of our community grow. It makes me happy to know that will only be right next door.

As we transition into the second year on our new campus, I know our caring and involved staff will ensure a smooth year and will work closely with Stevenson’s new principal to continue our school’s progress.  All of our teaching positions have been filled and teachers have already started to plan for the next year. I know our families will jump in, too, whenever needed. Thank you for all you have done to support our school and our students.

I will be available for an informal Principal’s Coffee at 8:15 am tomorrow in the MUR for any questions you may have.

On-Campus Before- and Afterschool  Programs Registering Students Now!

On-campus before- and afterschool care programs registering students now

We know that finding reliable, high-quality, affordable childcare is a challenge for many of our families and staff members. Increasing these offerings at our schools to meet demand has been a priority for MVWSD. On campus, our schools host several long-standing programs -- Beyond the Bell and the YMCA Silicon Valley Before and Aftercare --  in addition to a new one planned to open this fall, Right at School.

Right at School is a fee-based, nationally-recognized before- and afterschool program held every day that school is in session, from 6:30 AM until 6 PM, plus drop-in and school break care. It is planned for all MVWSD schools, including middle schools and the new Jose Antonio Vargas Elementary. Right at School presents experiential two-week science enrichment curriculum units, such as “Icky Experiments,” “Page to Stage,” and “Young Detectives.” The program incorporates physical movement, outdoor time and homework completion. It offers 10% sibling discount, 25% discount for free and reduced lunch families and flexible 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 day pricing options.

A parent information meeting for the new Right at School program has been scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 in the Graham Middle School multi-use room (1175 Castro St.).  This meeting will help answer any questions you have about the program. The meeting is not mandatory. You may also go to www.rightatschool.com for registration and this webpage for information and fees.
